Dirk Kuyt simply 'can't wait' to play in front of the Kop again when he joins up with the Liverpool Legends for next year's charity match against Bayern Munich.

It was announced last week that Kuyt will line up alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher for the Reds in the game at Anfield in March - with tickets on sale now.

Xabi Alonso, meanwhile, will play for both teams during the fixture, which is taking place in aid of the LFC Foundation.

Liverpoolfc.com caught up with Kuyt - who played 285 times for the club during his six seasons on Merseyside - to discuss the match and his excitement at the prospect of playing at Anfield again with a few of his former teammates.

Here's what the popular Dutchman had to say...

Dirk, you're back at Anfield, how does it feel to be pitchside?

It's amazing to be back. To be honest, after I left I didn't have too many chances to come back. I watched a few games, but not too many. I'm excited to stand here and I can't wait for the match in March to play in front of the Kop again.

What was it like when you got the phone call asking you to come and take part?

After you have retired, you are always looking forward to seeing your former teammates. Of course, I have heard about the Legends games and I was excited to get the email and the phone call about the match and especially against Bayern Munich. I think it is going to be a great game.

I've heard about the last match against Real Madrid, which was also a very exciting game. The stadium was almost sold out so I'm just hoping for the same.

A lot has changed in the six years you have been away but what do make of Anfield today?

It looks great and for the games I have watched the stand was already finished. It was an amazing feeling. And of course you want to keep the same feeling as it had before but I think it is even greater now. Let's see how it feels when you are on the pitch in front of so many people.

Can you put into words what it is going to be like to pull on the Liverpool shirt again?

It will be amazing because Liverpool is part of my life. After the five years that I have left I'm still in contact with many people, not only former players but also people who work inside the club. Liverpool means a lot to me and the fact I got the invitation to play the game is something I am really proud of and I'm really looking forward to it.

You retired from the game not long ago, is there something about football you are already starting to miss?

Not really, because still I am quite involved in football. I’m just proud of the career I had for 20 years and the clubs I've played for. The most special thing for me is that I'm still closely connected to the clubs I've played for. I'm also very happy that I'm now here again.

Do you still have a lot of interaction with Liverpool fans?

Yeah, it was amazing that during my last few games for Feyenoord - when we were fighting for the league title - how many Liverpool fans supported me through social media and when I met them, wherever I was.

It was great to feel their support at the moment you need it. To finish my career [at Feyenoord] with a league title and with a hat-trick and with so many supporting text messages through social media from the Liverpool supporters was something I was really proud of.

You're going to back in the dressing room with Gerrard, Carragher, Alonso and more of your old teammates...

It will be amazing and hopefully I will see as many former teammates as possible. But to see Stevie, Carra and Xabi Alonso again it will be something special. Of course, I met Robbie [Fowler] again today and it was great to see him again.
