A special cheque for £10,000 has been presented to the Owen McVeigh Foundation.

Reds 'keeper Simon Mignolet was present to hand over the donation to Owen’s parents, Mark and Joanne, at Melwood.

The cheque follows the sale of a very special limited-edition Owen McVeigh Foundation t-shirt, which was sold through the club’s three Liverpool stores and online.

All profits from the sale of the striking red t-shirt were donated to the Foundation set up in memory of 11-year old Owen, who tragically passed away shortly after being diagnosed with leukaemia in December 2015.

His father, Mark, established the Owen McVeigh Foundation, which aims to enrich the lives of local children suffering with cancer by providing them and their families with money-can’t-buy-experiences.

Mark said: “We are over the moon with this donation and can’t thank the club and those who’ve purchased a t-shirt enough for their support.

“We’ve been offered the chance to purchase a lodge in the Lake District, which will act as a special place for sick children and their families to get some much needed respite.

"We need to raise £110k by September and this donation is a very welcome addition to our fund.”
