Jürgen Klopp explained that his team selection for the clash with Bournemouth was based on both availability of players and the demands of the top-four race.

The manager made just one change from the side that started the midweek Champions League win over Manchester City, with Jordan Henderson returning to replace James Milner in midfield.

Asked about the strength of his line-up for the Premier League encounter, Klopp said: “I don’t know if it’s a ‘statement’.

“We don’t think about things like that, we have to use the boys. We don’t have 25 players at the moment.

“Our life is Champions League qualification, constantly; either it’s the semi-final or the final, or it’s the competition for next year. So we cannot make a difference [between them].”
