Adam Lallana is ready to step up his comeback from injury by featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Liverpool next week.

Lallana hasn't featured this season since injuring his thigh during the Audi Cup pre-season tournament in Munich in August.

The 29-year-old has accelerated his rehabilitation in recent weeks and remains on target for an expected return after the current international break.

And Jurgen Klopp will now arrange a 90-minute friendly at Melwood to further sharpen Lallana's fitness.

The game will also involve youth players and senior stars who have not been called up for national team duty this week.

Should Lallana come through the run-out, he could come into contention for Liverpool's next game against former club Southampton on Saturday week.

With Sadio Mane having recovered from a hamstring problem and Philippe Coutinho again available, Klopp could have some welcome options as the Reds head towards a busy period of 13 games between now and January 1.
